Ep. 60: How To Balance A Real Estate Career And A Family

Hello everybody. Thank you for coming to this week’s video
blog here at California Realty Training. My name is Robert Rico and as usual I just
so want to bring some great information to you so that when your real estate career takes
off, it takes off nice, it takes off running and you enjoy your time with your new career. Hey listen, this week we have a question from
one of our subscribers to our blogs and he asked a pretty interesting question. He asked, “How can you transfer from your
current situation of marriage say, or a marriage with kids and get involved in a real estate
career?” That’s pretty interesting. He’s saying, how can he as a married person
with a wife and kids, get into a real estate career? That’s a pretty darn good question because
most people who get involved in real estate as I was back in 1995, when I got my license,
are married couples and you might have kids, hell, you might not have kids but either way,
transferring into a new career like real estate can be challenging but it is so definitely
possible. Listen, this is the deal, first of all, I
want you to be confident. Changes are very difficult for everybody. It really is. Changes are so difficult for everybody. Imagine, you’re working your typical job that
you’ve had for five years, 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, whatever it is, you’ve been working
at your job for a long time and you love the stability, you love the benefits, some people
have jobs that have great health benefits, you get holidays off. It’s great to have your regular job. You really want to get into this new career
of real estate but you’re afraid to leap and get into this new career. You’re afraid to leave the stability. This is thing is protecting you, it’s been
there forever. It’s been there, it never let you down, this
job has been there for good. It provided with a salary, it provided you
with everything you and your family and children need. Yet you want to dabble into this new career
over here and possibly put 100% from this position, this safety net, into this new career
that can bring you a substantial amount of money. Much more than what you’re making over in
the safety net area. Is it difficult to go from the safety net
to something that’s a big mystery over here? Can be difficult. It can be nerveracking, it can be risky but
there’s ways to do it that make it less risky, less nerveracking. Can be done. In my opinion, what you should do is this,
number one, don’t quit this job, you gotta make some money. You gotta provide for your wife. You gotta provide for your children. You gotta provide for your family. Don’t leave this job. Let it be. What you can do is dabble over here just a
little bit. You could start off part time. What does part time mean? Part time means every now and then pick up
a client. Sometimes it’s a good idea to start off with
your S.O.I. Your S.O.I. will always give you, well typically
they will give you a shot at your real estate career. S.O.I. meaning sphere of influence. Typically your sphere of influence, people
who know you, people who love you, people who like you. Your family, your friends will give you an
opportunity. When those opportunities come, take them. Start off part time with these people. Sphere of influence. They know you, they know your ability, they
know your work ethic, they know your everything about you, they know so they’re going to give
you a shot. That’s how you’re going to learn. Start off learning slowly here in this area. The houses sell for a tremendous amount of
money which means your commissions are going to be fantastic. So once you close a deal and you make 20,
30, 40, 50,000 bucks on one deal and you have a nice nest egg in the bank. Now you can consider leaving this position
over here. Now you can consider leaving this position
that’s been here forever and ever and ever. That you’ve maybe gotten tired of, that you
maybe have said, “You know what? Enough is enough. I’m only doing this ’cause I have to.” Now might be the time with you having tons
of money in the bank to say it’s time for me to make a change in life. Sayonara, see later, no mas over here. And completely acknowledge, not just acknowledge,
focus, become goal oriented and just accept this new career of real estate. That’s how it should be done. Don’t leave this position if you have a family
or whether you’re a college student who just graduated, wants to dabble into this new real
estate career, or whether you’re a retired person, anybody who wants to get into this
new career and you have your regular position over here, then of course, you’ll be much
more comfortable, much more confident, leaving your past career, starting this new one. Once you get into this new career, now the
sky’s the limit. Now your motivation, now your purpose of doing
this new career and making money, is going to be for who? That right. For your family. The question was, how do I start off my career
over here? How do my wife and I start off our career
in the real estate field having kids? This is the deal, you’re going to need a lot
of help, a lot of support from your extended family so they can watch your kids, that all
depends how old your kids are, if they can watch themselves, they can watch themselves,
but if not, you’ll need some help, some babysitting help from your family, from your extended
family. If you want to do it as a couple, a married
couple, one of two things. You get help from the support team, which
is extended family or one of you can go out to the appointments, one of you stays home
and watches the kids and vice versa. There’s a lot of possibilities when you have
two involved in your business. That’s how it happened with my wife and I. We both got involved the same time, it worked
out beautifully, we too had kids, we had three small boys. Luckily the oldest was old enough to babysit
the other two so it worked out beautifully. Where there’s a will there way guys, there
really is. You’ll figure it out if you’re motivated. If this is important enough to you, you can’t
let anybody stop you. You can’t let any situation stop you. There’s going to be people who are retired
and want to do this just because they have nothing else to do and this is exciting, do
it, because you want to do it. Some people are doing this because they’re
straight out of college and they didn’t finish college and they want to make money quickly. This is the career for them. This is a career for anybody who wants to
shake things up, make money in a rather quick time if they put forth the effort, get educated
in this game. It can definitely happen. I completely get it. It’s very difficult to take that leap. It’s very difficult to say, “Wait a minute,
this has been paying my bills and feeding my family for so long. How can I leave this?” Let me inform you of something. If you do the right things with the real estate
career, it can give you two, three, four, five times over what this is providing you. It happened to me. If you just play your cards right and just
get yourself and give it all you can. Give effort. Education and effort. Hope this helps you. We hope to see you next week. Thank you for visiting us this week here at
